My Biggest Accomplishment

Ever since the New York Times released the game Wordle I have been more than hooked. Wordle is a game where you try and guess a five letter word that the NYT chooses, you have six total guesses and after each guess it will tell you if the letter is green for being in the right spot and yellow for the letter being in the word but not in that spot. I look forward to playing every single day and my stats at the time of this writing say I have played Wordle 548 times. I think my on the site stats got messed up before that and I have truly played more games but we’ll never know.

One of the main reasons I get so excited to play the Wordle every day is for the opportunity to guess the five letters on the first try. A lot of people have different strategies for how they attack their first guess everyday. Many will guess a word like “ADIEU” to try and use as many vowels as possible to learn and help get it quicker. Other people have their special starting word that they use every time. But I don’t like to play it to try and get it in two, nor do I have many special words. My goal when I play everyday is to try and get the Wordle on my first guess which is why I change up my starting words every time. Many people have said “you’re never going to get it in one, what's the point?” or “if you get it one it's just a lucky guess who cares” and at times it felt like they might have been right, but it was always worth the try of throwing out a random and new five letter word just in case.

If I’m awake at midnight I try to play the Wordle right when it comes out to make sure I don't even have the possibility of forgetting and missing a day. One day, I was very tired and I decided I’ll stay awake just a few more minutes til midnight so I can play Wordle. I watched a TikTok on a country music song and when the clock hit 12 I guessed COUNT. Suddenly, the first letter is green, the second letter goes green and then all of them go green. That day was January 24, 2023 my first time ever getting it in one. I called my grandmother to tell her my big news right away as she knew my love for the game. I then tried to fall back asleep but couldn’t as my body was filled with excitement. I laid awake coming up with fake responses and ceremonial speeches in my head to all the people who said it couldn’t be done. It was one of the best feelings in my life, even just a completely random and lucky guess made me feel so accomplished. That was until December 11, 2023 when I guessed it first try again. But there is nothing like your first time.
